Wanting to feel safer
Most of self-defence is awareness and confidence, both trainable.
Self-defence and karate training covers practical, real-world self-defence technique alongside traditional karate, taught privately or in small groups.
The self-defence side is about awareness, distance and a small number of techniques you can actually use under pressure. The karate side brings the traditional syllabus — forms, technique and progression.
Both build the same underlying things: confidence, discipline, focus and a much better sense of what your body can do. Shen Academy has taught these at this venue since 1996.

Old grades, older bodies. The training adapts.
The traditional side of karate is as much mental as physical.
Small group and private sessions for people who don't want a full class.
No. Fitness comes from the training rather than being a requirement for it.
Contact levels are set to suit you and are discussed before you start. Plenty of people train self-defence with minimal contact.
Both. Shen Academy runs classes at the venue; More Than Fitness handles private and small group coaching. Ask when you call and you'll be pointed at whichever fits.
Self-defence is a short, practical toolkit focused on real situations. Karate is a traditional art with a syllabus, forms and long-term progression.
